Admission Requirements

 

Applicants who meet all of the following requirements will be considered for admission to UWGB:

 

A. Graduation from a secondary school, or received the recognized equivalent of a secondary school diploma;

 

B. You may be admitted directly to UWGB undergraduate programs if your TOEFL score (IBT) is at or above 61, or if your IELTS score is at or above 5.5, or if your SAT in verbal at or above 250, or if your MTELP is at or above 70 ;

 

C. Academically qualified students who do not have the required English proficiency may enroll in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program and begin full-time undergraduate studies when they complete all ESL advanced level classes (ESL + University, commonly known as Conditional Admission);

 

D. Have the required English proficiency, especially in listening and speaking (subject to interview); and


E. Documentary proof of sufficient funds to pay for at least one year’s education in the United States.

 

English Proficiency Requirements:

 

Applicants should have required English proficiency they need for the university classroom and the professional workplace, as well for everyday situations. And the English proficiency requirements stipulated by UWGB are as follows:

 

1) Applicants who apply for admission to UWGB undergraduate programs directly should score above 61 on the TOEFL, or score above 5.5 on the IELTS;

 

2) Applicants who do not have the required English proficiency may enroll in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program and begin full-time undergraduate studies when they complete all ESL advanced level classes (ESL + University, commonly known as Conditional Admission). UWGB ESL Program offers six instructional sessions each year, respectively in January (eight-week course), March (eight-week course), June (four-week course), July (four-week course), September (eight-week course) and October (eight-week course), all of which cover classes in Listening, Reading, Oral Communication, Writing, and Grammar.

 

3) With the exception of the provisions stipulated above, all students admitted to the UWGB undergraduate program (including the student who has submitted accepted TOEFL or IELTS score) are required to take placement examinations in English and Math. The results of these tests will determine whether you should take ESL program or not. If the student fails to pass the placement tests, he/she should attend ESL program until passed the placement tests.
